Leo and Roxanne

There were many divine happenings throughout this period. Chavonne, one of my helpers, said she has been wanting to leave Singapore for a holiday break. When her auntie called her and offered exactly that, Chavonne really wanted to take it, but for some reasons that she can’t explain, she felt led to turn her auntie down. The next day, she got my message asking her to help me for the proposal! She delightfully agreed. (Now she knows the reason why she turned her auntie down.)

I told Chavonne that we would meet on Sat to recce the location. I gave her a general place, not the actual place to meet. She could not have guessed where it was, but on one of the nights, before our recce, she actually dreamt that I proposed on a hilltop, overlooking some buildings and trees, and along the way up, there was a church with a bell. When she woke up, she drew out this vision in her journal. (compare the drawings with the photos of the actual location found in Our Proposal Story Part 1)

On Sat, we met. When I drove her up to the location, she was shocked, as it was exactly like the place she saw in her dream (see the pictures she drew)! She told me about the church with the bell in her dreams too, but she did not see it then. That time, I did not even know that church existed. But indeed, as we found out later, along the same winding road up, there was this white Danish Seamen Church with a bell outside. If you know churches, you will know that it’s not very common to find churches with bells today! Wow!

Then there was Elkan’s and Melvin’s testimony. I specifically instructed them to be my guardian angels. You see, I had a pavilion on a hilltop decorated with curtains, candles, cloths etc. The thing is, this is a public location. So imagine if you are a passerby nearby, you would certainly take curious notice of this decorated pavilion. I don’t want that halfway when I am proposing,”will you marry me”, then suddenly my curtains get pulled off and out pop these curious onlookers checking out what’s happening. So Elkan and Melvin were supposed to station around that pavilion to prevent anyone from coming near it!

So on the actual day, after a romantic dinner at the costliest restaurant we ever went to together, I blindfolded Rox and drove her to the pavilion. There, I showed her the scrapbook I made and recounted our journey together. From the inside, we could see through the translucent curtain, curious passerbys walking towards our pavilion, when I confidently assured Rox, “Do not worry, I have got my guardian angels, Elkan and Melvin, watching out to prevent outsiders coming near!” Indeed, as this group of passerby came nearer, we saw 2 shadowy figures, in the shape and size of my 2 friends stopping them. One of the 2 figures even ran towards the group and diverted them elsewhere politely saying, “Excuse… er… my friend is inside proposing.. would u mind….. -rest of the conversation blur-” Rox and I were very impressed by Elkan and Melvin’s professionalism! We were especially touched that they sacrificed so much of their time and did such a ‘on the ball’ job. We were after all, inside the pavilion for a good 90mins!

The next day, when Rox and I met Elkan, we praised and thanked him for his wonderful and professional service! We extremely remarked how we saw him ran and stopped the group that was coming up towards us. Elkan suddenly looked puzzled, and apologized. He said, “actually, sorry, cause we did not really keep watch, but we went for supper after you arrived.” I was shocked, and asked, “didn’t you ran and stopped a group before you went for a meal?” “Nope,” replied Elkan. Not only did he confirmed that he did not do that, he confessed that they were missing in action throughout till I called them to tell them I was done. By then, all our hairs were standing. The 3 of us looked at each other when Elkan suddenly recalled, “wait.. before we ate, we felt guilty and Melvin made a prayer for you all, that God will send his angels to keep watch over the place… (on their behalf?)”  We were all in disbelief when we heard that. So, were those shadowy figures we saw really the angels of God? I doubted my eyes, ‘could I have seen wrongly?’ But I have to remind myself, that it’s not just me who saw and heard Elkan’s figure talking, but Rox saw and heard it too… and one of them really sounded like Elkan.

Anyway, 23-Mar-08 was a glorious day to remember. After God gave me this date to propose, I began to realized the significance of this date. It was Resurrection Easter Sunday! And more than that, our church then had this ‘Sanctification Week’ for 3 days, which leads up to Easter. Can you see the symbolic meaning that God was trying to show me? – As we cleansed ourselves, make ourselves pure and one heart with God during Sanctification Week, we find ourselves alive in Christ again during Resurrection Sunday, and a new LIFE begins in my journey with Roxanne…

We thank God once again, for His wonderful miracles in our lives. I now know today, God is a God of divine timing. All praise to Him!
